THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Today you arrive in Moncton for 2 nights and collect your rental car. Moncton is often referred to as "The Hub of the Maritimes" because all railway lines in and out of the region must pass through it. Moncton boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene, sporting competitions, and unique community activities that take place year-round. Discover the many sights and activities the city offers. Be sure to visit the Monument for Recognition in the 21st Century (MR21), an interpretation centre located in the only digital cathedral in Atlantic Canada, where you can learn about Acadian heritage. The city's largest green space, Centennial Park, includes many attractions and activities, from hiking and skiing trails to an artificial beach to an aerial treetop obstacle course and zip line.
The Flights & Bites Experience includes a designated spot in the beautiful award-winning Magnetic Hill Winery, which also contains the world’s “shortest” covered bridge! It's time to let the wine adventure begin! Once seated, you will enjoy a Tasting Flight, where you get to taste four wines of your choice from the winery's selection and snack on local charcuterie, which includes a variety of local cheeses and meats. The experience gives you the freedom to roam around the property inside and outside, take photos of the picturesque view from the patio, take a walk in the vineyards and learn cool, interesting wine facts and stories from your server, who will be delighted to talk about the winery's history and the wine world.
Today you will drive from Moncton to St. Andrews and go on a Whale Watching and Wildlife Cruise. St. Andrews, or St. Andrews by-the-Sea as it is often called, has long been one of New Brunswick's premier vacation destinations. Enjoy whale-watching excursions on the Bay of Fundy, or shop in the historic downtown to find that unique treasure made by local artisans. Stroll the 11 ha (27 acres) of Kingsbrae Garden, named one of the Top Ten Public Gardens in Canada. Pick up a map at the Visitor Information Centre and explore the historic town plat to see houses that were barged across the bay from Castine, Maine, and then rebuilt here in St. Andrews by the United Empire Loyalists in 1783.
Continue north on the River Valley Scenic Drive on to Fredericton, New Brunswick's picturesque capital city noted for its heritage and culture. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring Fredericton and its attractions. Places to visit include City Hall, Christ Church Cathedral, the Historic Military Compound, Old Government House and the Kings Landing Historical Settlement.
Famous for its world-class salmon fishing and local friendliness, this is one city that lets you experience the best of what the great outdoors has to offer. A trip to the City of Miramichi and its valley is about authentic spirit, nature, and a total sense of renewal. French Fort Cove is a stunning historic area, formally known as Mill Cove, and is perfect for those who love birding, hiking, biking, paddling, zip-lining, or maybe just picnicking while taking in the scenic views. Make sure to visit Boishébert and Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Site of Canada, which offers costumed guides to learn about the Acadians who took refuge there, and the shipbuilding of centuries past. Take a walk through 30 centuries of Mi'kmaq culture. For over 3,000 years, our ancestors have stood above the ancestral grounds of the Mi'kmaq, overlooking the Oxbow National Historic Sites. Metepenagiag Heritage Park allows you the chance to experience a connection to one of New Brunswick's oldest continuously inhabited communities. Enjoy a guided tour of the Metepenagiag Interpretative Centre, where you can learn about the cultural significance of the community and the two national historic sites, experiencing storytelling handed down through generations. Then walk in the footsteps of our ancestors through our beautiful groomed walking trails as you gather some of the ingredients for your Indigenous meal of wild game or fish; traditional bannock, and traditional tea.
Known as The Lobster Capital of the World for lobster fishing, processing plants, live-lobster tanks, and the famous Lobster Festival, this is where you'll find The World’s Largest Lobster Stop and have your picture taken with it! Take a dip in the finest saltwater beaches in Eastern Canada! With waters peaking at 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit), it’s some of the warmest water north of Virginia. Boating, windsurfing, golf, and hiking are just a few of the attractions on or near its pristine, sprawling beaches. Enjoy a 2.5-hour cruise on a covered boat and learn all you need to know about the Atlantic Lobster. Cruising on beautiful Shediac Bay, listen to a knowledgeable guide who also will guide you carefully through the proper process of cracking and eating a cooked lobster.
Day at leisure to explore this magnificent park. The park is renowned for its hiking trails, with over 104 km of trails to choose from, ranging from easy 1/2 km loops to a demanding 50km circuit around the park. The park is a haven for bird watchers, golfers, cyclists, canoeists, and naturalists. Be sure to visit Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park, home of Hopewell Rocks. Visit the excellent interpretive center on site before exploring this natural phenomenon. Twice each day the highest tides in the world, up to 46ft/14m, flood the beach, and twice each day you can explore the floor of the Bay of Fundy at low tide! Created over thousands of years by the Bay of Fundy's awesome tidal forces, the Flowerpot Rocks are a natural wonder not to be missed. If time permits visit Cape Enrage Lighthouse and Mary's Point Bird Sanctuary located nearby.
