THE JOURNEY BEGINS
This morning depart onboard luxury rail from the coastal city of Vancouver to Kamloops in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. Todays journey will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser River Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains.
Continue eastward on your rail journey to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. You will see a spectacular range of scenery as you travel across ranch lands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies.
Nestled high in the Canadian Rockies, the town of Banff is located within the Banff National Park. Once “Siding 29” on the Canadian Pacific Railway, the town of Banff was intended to be a tourist town from its very inception. The park’s first superintendent, George Stewart, even oriented the town’s first street so that it offered the best possible view of Cascade Mountain. With easy access to pristine wilderness, outdoor adventures, jaw-dropping landscape, and a vibrant history, there are many places to visit in Banff and Lake Louise. Join a small group tour and visit Banff’s landmarks and historic places. The afternoon is free to explore Banff at your leisure; admission to the Banff Gondola is included - sore to the top of Sulphur Mountain for birds-eye-views of Banff and the surroundings.
Today you will be transferred by coach to Lake Louise, a jewel of the Rockies surrounded by glistening glaciers and towering snow-capped mountain peaks. Late in the day, with the glowing sun dropping behind Mount Victoria, you have likely never seen anything so dramatically beautiful.
Travel to Jasper along one of the most scenic drives in North America – the Icefields Parkway. This is home for black and grizzly bears, elk, moose, mountain goats and sheep. Visit the Columbia Icefield, a series of glaciers 325 square kilometres in area, where time is allowed for an Ice Explorer ride onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier and then walk on a glass platform high above the valley on the Glacier Skywalk.
In the morning join our guide for an interpretive tour up the Maligne Valley. The tour will include a stop at Maligne Canyon for a guided walk above the gorge, Medicine Lake and then Maligne Lake where you can either take the boat cruise to Spirit Island or enjoy a guided hike along the Mary Schaffer Loop. This afternoon ride the Jasper Tramway to the top of Whistlers Mountain for spectacular views.
Travelling in sleeper class, by day you will sit back in comfortable armchairs, at night attendants will transform your quarters into cozy bunks or a private bedroom. You will have access to the Park Car which offers a lounge atmosphere and the Dome Car for 180 degree panoramic windows for spectacular viewing. Gourmet meals are included in the dining room when travelling in Sleeper Class.
Upon arrival in Toronto your tour ends.
