Calgary is a year-round destination like no other: a mix of big-city energy and warm Western hospitality. From a bustling downtown with character-filled neighborhoods to the peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains just an hour west and the dramatic landscape of the Canadian Badlands to the east, Calgary is your base camp to adventure. With our walking shoes on, we cover a lot of ground and experience the highlights that vibrant Calgary has to offer. This guided walking tour will cover the history of Downtown and start with a walk along Stephen Avenue which is a National Historic Site of Canada. It consists of nearly three dozen commercial buildings dating from the 1880-1930 era (known as the Sandstone Era), with mostly retail businesses, restaurants, former banks, and a church. A stop at the Iconic Alberta Boot Company with a guided history tour. The iconic Alberta Boots are inspired by the Canadian prairie roots but evolve to suit the modern cowboy and cowgirl. From the city to the ranch, the Western spirit is expressed by proudly handcrafting truly authentic boots. Each pair pays homage to the past while adding contemporary elements, functionality, and comfort. For lunch, we walk to the famous Calgary Tower standing 191 meters above the downtown core, with the best views in the city! From the Observation Deck, you can experience a spectacular 360° view of Calgary, the majestic Rocky Mountains, the foothills, and the prairies. Here we will sit in the revolving 360 restaurant and enjoy lunch. Next, Studio Bell offers visitors a dive into the evolving story of music in Canada through new and updated exhibitions. See some of Canada's most legendary guitars and Speak Up! showcasing an annual selection of Indigenous trailblazers in music. Don’t miss the new Canadian Music Hall of Fame exhibition. A visit to the iconic Calgary Public Central Library is truly a place to celebrate as you marvel at the unique architecture of the building which has won numerous architecture and design awards since its opening in November 2018. Next, we will learn about Calgary’s famous +15 Skybridge system as we walk to our last stop of the day to enjoy a walk along the Riverside of Downtown Eau Claire Park. This is known as Calgary’s festival district, sitting on the banks of the Bow River, and hosting exciting community events every year.
