THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Depart Edmonton on VIA Rails Canadian service for the overnight journey to Jasper.
Arrive early in Jasper. Drop your bags off at the hotel for check in later in the day and head out to explore charming Jasper town centre. Winter in Jasper is the perfect time to engage in your favourite cold weather activities. Take in the majestic view of the Rockies from the town centre, from one of the nearby trails, or the ski hill. Known for its spectacular views, varied runs and laid-back atmosphere, Marmot Basin Ski Resort is the highest of all Canadian ski areas. Ski or snowboard in Marmot’s 1,720 acres, 91 runs and 3000 vertical feet of diverse terrain. Check at your hotel reception for details of the shuttle bus to the Marmot basis Ski area and spend the rest of the day on the slopes.
A full day on the slopes. In the evening, visit one of Jasper’s eating places to try a locally sourced dish perfectly paired with a local brew to get a real feel of Jasper’s food scene. For the evening, we suggest visiting Jasper Planetarium inside at the Jasper Park Lodge. Renowned for its breathtaking dark sky, Jasper is also the perfect place to embrace the night and whether you want to stare into the Milky Way or watch an awe-inspiring aurora. Jasper’s dark sky is exceptional during the winter. The Planetariums’ experienced astronomy guides take you on a tour of the cosmos. Specializing in the night sky above Jasper, visitors have the chance to see the stars above Jasper regardless of the weather. This is a great opportunity to take in a closer look at the heavens over the lakes, canyons, glaciers and mountain tops of the second largest Dark Sky Preserve in the world.
A full day on the slopes at the Marmot Basin Ski Resort. To experience something very different, try out the Maligne Canyon Icewalk in Jasper, one of Alberta’s most impressive winter experiences. Pick a trail to the bottom of the Maligne Canyon - the deepest accessible canyon in Jasper National Park, where you can see and explore frozen waterfalls, ice caves, and incredible ice formations.
You have the morning free in Jasper to relax before boarding the 12.30pm train back to Edmonton
