Drive to Jasper Alberta, which was originally a tiny railway town in the Canadian Rockies. Jasper's small-town charm is very different from the alpine resort style glamour of Banff. Surrounded by towering mountains, crystal clear lakes, and abundant wildlife, Jasper town is located within the Jasper National Park, which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the world's largest accessible Dark Sky Preserve.
Overnight: Jasper
You start the day with a ride up Whistler's Mountain on the Jasper SkyTram. Then, discover the Maligne Valley, a drive abundant in wildlife viewing opportunities and history of the surrounding natural landscapes. A short walk into Maligne Canyon allows for fantastic views of ancient limestone carved by waterfalls. Next is Medicine Lake, a disappearing lake whose waters change seasonally as flow rates from surrounding glaciers fill the empty lake basin. A further scenic drive will take you to Maligne Lake (the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rocky Mountains) for an amazing lake cruise on Maligne Lake to wrap up a day in a place of stunning natural beauty.
Overnight: Jasper
Renowned for its breathtaking dark sky, Jasper is the perfect place to embrace the night and whether you want to stare into the Milky Way or watch an awe-inspiring aurora. Tonight you will experience Jasper’s dark sky with the Jasper Planetarium and Telescope Experience. The Planetariums’ experienced astronomy guides will guide you on a tour of the cosmos. Specializing in the night sky above Jasper, visitors have the chance to see the stars above Jasper regardless of the weather. This is a great opportunity to take in a closer look at the heavens over the lakes, canyons, glaciers, and mountain tops of the second largest Dark Sky Preserve in the world.
Overnight: Jasper
Have an easy morning in Jasper exploring the town centre, and then head home on a leisurely drive through the towns of Hinton and Edson, to Edmonton or directly south on the Icefields Parkway towards Banff.
